CNN —Take your seat because Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poets Department” meeting has officially been called into session. The Grammy-winner released her highly anticipated 11th studio album on Friday, appearing on Apple Music around 15 minutes prior to its scheduled midnight release time. The 16-track album has a moody and chill sound with classic Taylor lyrics reflecting what sounds like her internal monologue. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”“Tortured Poets” includes 16 tracks with one bonus track titled “The Manuscript.” It features collaborations with Post Malone on a track titled “Fortnight,” the album’s lead single, and with Florence + The Machine on a song titled “Florida!! In February, Swift announced the album at the Grammys, while accepting the award for best pop vocal album for 2022’s “Midnights.”“It was really a lifeline for me,” Swift said of “Tortured Poets” during a February concert in Melbourne, according to video footage posted to social media.

New York CNN —The US Department of Justice is preparing to sue the country’s largest concert promoter and ticketing website Live Nation in the coming weeks for breaking America’s antitrust laws, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the Justice Department’s plans. The lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company of Ticketmaster, will allege the ticketing company used its market-leading position to harm competition for live events, the Journal reported. Shares of Live Nation (LYV) dropped nearly 7% in premarket trading Tuesday. Live Nation and the Justice Department didn’t respond to CNN’s request for comment about the Journal’s report. Vinyl records are now so hot they move UK inflation

London CNN —The prices of vinyl records will feed into UK inflation statistics for the first time since 1992, highlighting a surge in their popularity among British consumers driven in part by Taylor Swift. UK inflation has slowed from 11.1% to 4% but remains above the central bank’s 2% target. LPs — which dropped out of the UK inflation basket more than three decades ago, owing to the rise of CDs and cassettes — have made a huge comeback in recent years. Last year, 6.1 million vinyl records were sold in Britain, the highest number since 1990, according to data from the British Phonographic Industry, an association of UK record companies and labels. Air fryers, rice cakes reflect healthier habitsOther new items in this year’s inflation basket highlight the wider adoption of healthier lifestyles.

I first heard about Beato after stumbling onto his YouTube channel. During the pandemic, for example, many music fans migrated to the internet to watch various forms of music because live music was off-limits. “I still feel at 60 the same way I did when I was 14,” he said recently in a YouTube video. His face lights up when he talks about his family on his YouTube channel. “My YouTube Channel was a way to honor my parents and leave something for my kids.

1 on Billboard’s album chart this week thanks to an expanded edition, while Dolly Parton notches her highest chart position ever. Six weeks ago, “For All the Dogs” opened at the top with big streaming numbers, and it has held in the Top 5 since. Last week, Drake released a new version of it — the “Scary Hours Edition” — with six new songs, which has sent the album back to No. Incredibly, “Rockstar” becomes Parton’s highest-charting album, and only the third in her storied career to reach the Top 10 of the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. Among Parton’s solo albums, and LPs with her onetime singing partner Porter Wagoner, she has had numerous titles in the Top 10 of Billboard’s country chart, including eight No.

The superhero factory hit a new low with the weekend launch of “The Marvels,” which opened with just $47 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. It was also the rare Marvel movie led by three women — Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani. After numerous strike-related delays, the only Marvel movie currently on the studio’s 2024 calendar is “Deadpool 3,” opening July 26. Taylor Swift’s “1989” has been a fixture in the Top 20 of Billboard’s album chart for months. But “1989” is about to make an all-but-certain plunge down the chart. That’s because on Friday, Swift will release “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” the latest installment in her ambitious and wildly successful project to rerecord her first six studio albums. “1989” will be the fourth of Swift’s remakes, and each one so far has opened at No. “Speak Now” came out in July and started with 716,000 sales, including a remarkable 268,500 copies sold on vinyl LP.

For months now, fans have been packing stadiums for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” and Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour, paying up to thousands of dollars for premium seats to see two beloved performers at the top of their game. Consumers have more cash on hand now than before the pandemic, according to a July analysis from the JPMorgan Chase Institute. So, what do corporate earnings reveal about the health of the consumer? “The consumer is in good financial shape, particularly the premium consumer base that we target,” Ed Bastian, chief executive of Delta Air Lines (DAL), said last month. “Both the lower-income consumer and our higher-income consumers are showing really good strength,” said Brian Niccol, chief executive of Chipotle, during the company’s post-earnings call. “The macro effects of higher inflation and a slowing US economy have put increased pressure on the price-sensitive consumer,” said Chip Bergh, chief executive of Levi Strauss.

Rachel Hunter could not wait to play her new vinyl recording of Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now.”After waiting weeks for its arrival, Ms. Hunter placed the orchid-colored vinyl with Ms. Swift’s face on its center on her record player, lifted the needle and let it play. But instead of Ms. Swift’s catchy choruses, acoustic guitar and banjo strums, another woman’s voice came out. “I quit seeing people, quit looking at the flakes of flesh and dancing organisms,” an echoing voice said, without music in the background. Maybe there was something wrong with the speed, Ms. Hunter thought, or maybe it was one of Ms. Swift’s notorious Easter eggs. I was by myself,” Ms. Hunter recalled.

CNN —As Swifties and others rejoice at the release of Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” a reissue of the star’s third studio album from 2010, one previously unreleased track has some scratching their heads. “When Emma Falls in Love,” one of the “from the vault” songs in the album rerelease, is gaining traction online as being about Oscar-winning actor Emma Stone, a known friend of Swift’s from the time “Speak Now” was initially written, around 2008-2010. The company’s Stream Onyx is one of the first record players designed specifically to work with Sonos, letting you listen to your vinyl albums as easily as streaming songs from Spotify. Both work the same way: Do some light assembly, plug them in, launch the Victrola app and soon, that weathered copy of “Rumours” can be playing through all your Sonos speakers. The analog-to-digital conversion means you’ll hear all the characteristic vinyl hisses and cracks, and since Sonos speakers generally sound pretty good, so will your records. If you already have a turntable you like, but you’re in the market for new speakers, then consider Sonos’ new Era speakers. Once you have one of those connected to your record player, you can then stream your vinyl to the rest of your Sonos products.

Now the cable cowboy’s Liberty Media (FWONA.O) empire is trotting out its trademark financial razzle-dazzle to try and wring additional value out of its assets. Malone, Liberty Media’s chairman, is as renowned for his dizzying array of specialized equity issues, spinoffs and splits as he is for the telecom and entertainment companies that have been subjected to the intricate machinations. It excludes broadcaster Discovery, spun off from Liberty Media in 2005, and international broadband provider Liberty Global (LBTYA.O), hived off a year earlier. A more logical starting point would be 2001, when Malone carved Liberty Media out of telecom giant AT&T (T.N). Likewise, Liberty Media’s accompanying shakeup of its tracking stocks stands to further spotlight the value of Formula One.

Backlash against the ticketing companies has also grown: When a major artist announces a tour, fans inevitably complain on social media about Ticketmaster’s high fees and unchecked scalping. Users shared screenshots of emails from Ticketmaster that said “Your invitation to TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan.” “You’ve been selected!” the email reads.
